For Homemade Biscuits
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 6 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
For Serving (Optional)
- Butter for brushing (melted)
- Honey, jam, or gravy
Shortcut Option
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (like Pillsbury)
- Frozen biscuits (adjust cook time as needed)
Instructions
- Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter, fork, or your hands until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Slowly add the buttermilk and mix gently until a soft dough forms.
- Roll & Cut the Biscuits: Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a round glass to cut out biscuits. Gather scraps and repeat until all dough is used.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). If your air fryer doesn’t require preheating, skip this step.
- Air Fry the Biscuits: Place biscuits in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they don’t touch. Air fry for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve & Enjoy: Brush the warm biscuits with melted butter and serve immediately. Enjoy with honey, jam, butter, or even sausage gravy!
Notes
- Cold butter is key! Keeping the butter cold helps create flaky layers.
- Don’t overmix the dough—this keeps the biscuits light and tender.
- Spacing matters! Leave room in the air fryer basket so air circulates evenly.
- For extra flavor, brush biscuits with melted butter or sprinkle with sea salt before serving.
- Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 325°F for 2–3 minutes to crisp them back up.
