These classic thumbprint cookies are buttery, soft, and filled with sweet jam centers that melt in your mouth. Perfect for holiday cookie trays, cookie exchanges, or any time you crave a simple yet elegant dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup jam (raspberry, strawberry, apricot, or peach)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line 3 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Beat butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla; mix until combined.
  5. Slowly add dry ingredients; mix just until dough forms.
  6. Scoop 1.5 tablespoon portions of dough and roll into balls.
  7. Press the back of a floured teaspoon to create a thumbprint indent.
  8. Fill each indent with jam.
  9. Bake 13–15 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool for 10 minutes on sheet before transferring to rack.

  • Use thick jam to prevent overflow.
  • Chill the dough 15 minutes before baking for cleaner edges.
