Description

This Choco Crunch Cake is going viral for a reason. Soft chocolate-soaked cake, a rich and creamy filling, silky ganache, and a crispy chocolate crunch on top make every bite irresistible. It is the kind of dessert that disappears fast, so you might want to make extra.

Ingredients

Cake Layer

  • Chocolate cake mix (or storebought chocolate cake)
  • Chocolate milk (for soaking the cake)

Cream Layer

  • Dream Whip (or substitute: heavy whipping cream + powdered sugar)
  • Cream cheese, softened
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  • Heavy whipping cream

Crunchy Chocolate Layer

  • Crispy rice cereal (Rice Krispies or Cocoa Krispies)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Melted chocolate (semisweet or milk chocolate)

Chocolate Ganache

  • Heavy whipping cream
  • Chocolate chips (semisweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake Layer
Bake chocolate cake as per instructions or use a storebought cake. Once cool, slice and layer in a 9×9-inch glass dish. Pour chocolate milk over the cake.
  2. Make the Cream Layer
Whip Dream Whip (or heavy cream + powdered sugar) with softened cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream until smooth. Spread over the soaked cake.
  3. Make the Chocolate Ganache
Heat heavy cream until warm and pour over chocolate chips. Let sit for a minute, then stir until smooth.
  4. Make the Crunchy Chocolate Layer
Mix melted chocolate with crispy rice cereal and cocoa powder until well coated.
  5. Assemble & Chill
Pour chocolate ganache over the cream layer, then top with the crunchy chocolate mixture. Press gently and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • Don’t Skip the Soak: Pouring chocolate milk over the cake keeps it moist without making it soggy. Let it absorb for a few minutes before adding the cream layer.
  • Chill for the Perfect Texture: Refrigerating for at least an hour helps the layers set, making the cake easier to slice and enhancing the flavors.
  • Use High-Quality Chocolate: Since chocolate is the star here, opt for good-quality chocolate chips and cocoa powder for a rich, deep flavor.
  • Crispy Topping Hack: If you want extra crunch, toast the crispy rice cereal in a dry pan for a minute before mixing it with melted chocolate.
  • Make Ahead Friendly: This cake gets even better overnight, so feel free to prepare it a day in advance and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Customize the Layers: Swap Cocoa Krispies for regular Rice Krispies if you want a milder chocolate flavor or mix in crushed nuts for extra texture.
