Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef and Sauce:
- 1 lb ground beef (lean preferred)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tsp grated ginger (or 1/2 tsp ginger paste)
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water (for the slurry)
For the Noodles:
- 12 oz udon noodles (or spaghetti, linguine, or rice noodles)
Optional Garnish:
- Sliced green onions
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Cook the Noodles: Prepare the noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Brown the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Drain any excess grease.
- Make the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, hoisin sauce, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Combine Sauce and Beef: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the ground beef. Stir and let simmer for 3–4 minutes, allowing the beef to absorb the flavors.
- Thicken the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water to form a slurry. Pour the slurry into the skillet and stir until the sauce thickens and coats the beef evenly.
- Combine with Noodles: Add the cooked noodles to the skillet. Toss until the noodles are evenly coated with the sauce and beef mixture.
- Serve: Remove from heat. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Use Fresh Ginger and Garlic: For the best flavor, opt for freshly grated ginger and minced garlic instead of pre-minced or powdered versions.
- Don’t Overcook Noodles: Slightly undercook the noodles before tossing them in the sauce to avoid mushiness as they’ll absorb more liquid in the skillet.
- Control the Spice: Adjust red pepper flakes to suit your spice level or skip them for a kid-friendly version.
- Prep Ahead: Chop, mince, and whisk all ingredients before cooking for a seamless and stress-free process.
